Last year I went for a vacation to South Africa and went on the Wildlife Sanctuary project. I visited Kwa Cheetah and got inspired to help the animals too. After searching on the internet I came to the website GoEco and applied for the Wildlife Sanctuary in Hartbeespoort. Volunteering in South Africa for two weeks at the end of July was the BEST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! After being home for a week I am still missing falling asleep with the roaring of the lions.
We worked the whole week except for Thursday and Sunday, these were the days you could go on an awesome excursion. I went to a monkey sanctuary, Monte Casiono, Lesedi Culturale Village, Sterkfontein caves, Cameleon Village and quad biking.
Monday was called: poop day. This means that the whole day you were cleaning animal enclosures and after lunch you removed all the poop of the week to another place. The other days were always a surprise. Sometimes you had to work but sometimes you did cool activities like a game drive or go to the training camp. The fun thing about horse riding was that you walked close to animals as hippo, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest etc.
I enjoyed every single minute! I want to thank the other volunteers, the volunteer crew, the project leaders and the lovely animals for this once in a lifetime experience!
