Travel to Kruger National Park to observe the African Big Five and other magnificent wildlife species up close! This add-on is the perfect way to conclude or begin your South African volunteer experience.
Program Highlights:
Your Schedule at a Glance (Minimum three-day commitment):
Arrival Day, Friday: Arrive at O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB). Make your own way to the designated hostel in Johannesburg to settle in for the night. Participants joining this tour following a volunteer experience at the Wild Cat Sanctuary or Wildlife Sanctuary will be transferred from their program to the hostel.
Day 1, Saturday: You are picked up from your hostel in Johannesburg and travel to the Big Five game reserve for a sunset drive. After dark, spotlights are used to locate nocturnal animals. Participants will experience a traditional African barbeque dinner.
Day 2, Sunday: Following breakfast, enjoy a full day of traveling through the Orpen Gate of Kruger, which is home to the largest concentration of giraffe, zebra and antelope in the park and attracts numerous lions and other large predators.
Day 3, Monday: The day begins with a sunrise bush walk. Participants have a high chance of encountering buffalo and nyala while traveling on foot. Following breakfast, participants drive to the Three Rondavels of the Blyde River Canyon, which are enormous rocks that are thought to be reminiscent of indigenous Rondavel huts. Participants staying only three days will be taken back to the hostel in Johannesburg, or O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
