Located at the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, between Java and Lombok, Bali is one of Indonesia’s most admired islands. The green, terraced rice fields, coconut forests and endless beaches are only part of the island’s natural beauty, making Bali a very popular destination for domestic and international tourism. Artistic and cultural interactions, such as traditional Balinese dance performances, are experiences you do not want to miss. This Culture Week takes place in southern Bali, in the rural town of Ubud, which is surrounded by small farms, rice terraces and dense forests.
This Culture Week is the ideal way to kick off your volunteer experience in Bali, at either of these two programs:
Bali Sea Turtle Rescue – Assist on the island of Nusa Penida at a sea turtle rescue center. Work with injured and rescued sea turtles to rehabilitate them and educate others about the importance of conservation.
Education and Community Work in Bali – Volunteers on this program make a difference through teaching in underdeveloped villages, taking part in construction projects and teaching health education. Volunteers have a choice of placement.
Laundry: There are local laundry services around the village that are available for a small fee.
Accommodations: Participants will stay at our volunteer accommodations in Pejeng village. Bedrooms will be single-gender and shared with four-eight people. There are hot showers in the shared bathrooms and fans in the rooms.
We provide three meals per day during the week, and breakfast and dinner on weekends. Typical dishes include vegetables with fried rice or noodles. Some western dishes would also be available. We provide breakfasts that vary and include pancakes, fresh fruit, toast, etc. We do not recommend that you drink the tap water. Tea, coffee and purified water are available at the house.
